As a college student, my backpack is an extension of myself in many ways. It contains my notes, pens, and computer vital for my success in college. It contains the snacks and water bottle I need to survive long days on campus. It also contains the "in-case" items that help put my mind at rest if I forgot something from home: extra hair ties, masks, and that backup-backup snack. With so much in my backpack important to me and my life on campus, it is no wonder that I can get apprehensive about it when it is not with me or in my line of sight.
And that makes me wonder. I can be a little cynical of society. It is not so much that I distrust anyone in particular, but I realize that a lot of trouble and hassle can come from one person who just doesn't care about others. It is not that I think that everyone is going to steal my backpack or its contents, but one person sure could. I did not think about it too much until I found myself leaving my things in the university library while going to the restroom last week.
I hurried along so that I could get back to my things, but in the process, I realized that perhaps I was not as distrustful as I thought I was. Admittedly, one of the reasons I left my things and backpack at a table while using the restroom instead of taking it all with me was laziness. I did not want to have to put everything in my backpack, lug it all to the restroom, only to have to set everything back up a few minutes later.
Yet, I found another reason to leave my things behind: the stranger across the table from me. I never said a word to the man.
I don't even think we made eye contact. However, I had been sitting across him for over an hour, so in some strange way, I trusted him. When I got back and everything was just as I left it, I mentally approved of the man who had "watched" my things. Again, I never said anything to him. I realized later that this strange relationship was reciprocal. When the man left his things on the table later that afternoon to leave the room, I mentally charged myself with the duty to make sure his things were safe.
It was almost as if I was saying, "Don't worry, sir. You watched my stuff; I will watch your stuff. The whole thing puzzles me. Even the thought of "long enough" puzzles me. Would I have trusted the stranger if I had only sat at the same table as him for half an hour?
Would I be more inclined to leave my backpack for longer if we had sat in each other's presence for longer? I don't know. Maybe one day a psychologist or sociologist will answer my questions. In the meantime, I am bewildered by the general distrust I have of society, and yet the unusual trust I have of a stranger.
Don't let this stop you from making your car smart. You can change the one you have using smart gadgets that transform your car into a smart car. Cars are no longer just a mode of transport, where you only worry about the engine and how beautiful its interior is. These days, everyone wants to make their cars smarter, those with advanced technology systems. It makes sense for several reasons. It can make your vehicle more efficient and safer when you need to drive.
Also, a smart car allows you to do more things you love doing while traveling. For example, you may want to play your favorite music, use your favorite apps, or even get directions.
And just like with anything, the more you can do with it, the more value you get from it. Here are five excellent gadgets that will help you make your car more valuable and efficient. Dashcams are cameras that you mount on the dashboard of your vehicle, typically looking out through the windshield.
It is one of the best ways to keep your car and yourself safe. You can use it to capture video or take pictures. It can help you monitor your driving habits or those of people who drive your car. You may also use them for recording road safety and other road-related incidents.
If you want accessories, consider the land rover defender accessories And if you want to mount your camera outside your car buy go pro roof rack mounting brackets, You can then rotate your camera so that it takes photos from different angles and directions. They also come with sensors that will detect and notify you of a crash that might happen. It also goes into an emergency protocol to help save your life. Others have speed camera alerts to notify you where speed cameras are on your route.
It lets you check your speed when near the speed camera to avoid getting a speeding ticket. Because everyone complains about being there, but we all secretly love it. I still get a shiver when I hear a drum cadence and my feet begin to move. I'm talking practicing in Disney world with fireworks in the background and then getting to march down Main Street… marching through confetti cannons… marching at the Indians game… performing on Fox 8 News and getting my own interview… And most importantly, getting to travel around and perform every Friday night under the stadium lights.
My marching band is like my family. Also, you know, it's cool when people come to football games only for the halftime show. They were very welcoming and supportive. Not being a big sports fan, I came to love football games for the music, chanting, feeding of the mob, and goofing around with other band moms… I was proud of all the kids as I saw them improve.
It helped me find opportunities. Without marching band I wouldn't have become a sister. Waiting on the sidelines, pre-performance, in October. I am not talking about thinking through a flawless performance. We needed visualization just to stay warm! I loved making up flag routines and teaching them, and goofing with my friends instead of watching the football game. Also, I first met my future husband in band! Should probably have lead with that The amount of love and support from everyone was incredible.
Being able to perform in front of a huge crowd under those Friday night lights and showing them what you worked so hard for was really a thrilling experience. Loved every second of it. Because of that a whole new world was opened up for me, of different instruments, different music, different people. It never fails to make me feel better when I'm having a rough day! I… found my passion for spinning and twirling… I feel blessed to be a part of something so large and important.
The details, the creativity and passion. We weren't just a group of friends when that happened All the support mom and I got from our dysfunctional family was so amazing. Tonight at a band show I ran into a band friend I haven't seen in probably 18 years.
It was like no time had passed at all. All the skills I gained helped me in other organizations, jobs and other classes… and the memories I've held on to are nothing but fond. You got to travel with your second family producing a show you all put so much effort into… Sharing a common interest that turns into an overall passion is unbeatable.
Even though it was very stressful on occasion, the community in addition to the memorable performances made it so incredibly worth it!! I loved seeing how all of the shows eventually came together as well as spending time achieving this with some of my closest friends.
I think just being surrounded by people who love the same things you do, makes band rehearsals and game days so great.
And every time I step onto the field, I am so proud of what we have accomplished. I remember the pride of becoming good through discipline and practice, of making an individual contribution to a team effort. I remember standing at attention while mosquitos bit my ankles. I remember coming in 2nd at competition… And a thousand more images.
When they were little, they didn't realize a game was actually going on. They thought it was a band concert with some kids playing football in between. It was tremendous fun and a spectacle of sight and sound. Oh boy the sound! To join the band myself was always a foregone conclusion for me… What I never would have guessed is the unbridled pride and joy I have experienced watching my kids perform with their bands. And watching my son bring his trumpet up and hit his mark and listening to him revel in his performances swells my heart to bursting.
So I guess my favorite thing about marching band is the happiness it brings to so many generation after generation. I love how everyone can just be themselves and can always find a friend in band. The inside jokes, the comradery, etc. The feeling when everything comes together and works out is indescribable. Apart from the actual performance, everybody participating has a love for music so making friends is easy.
And lastly, a truly touching story. Thank you, marching band, for providing myself and others with so many wonderful moments:. Through the new "kind" of parents I was surrounded by: warm, welcoming, supportive, nurturing of both my daughter AND myself, more was healed by these lovely, genuine friends.
Friends was not a word in my vocabulary when I sat on the same bleachers as a teen, but because a Band Family is made up of a very different type of people than the rest of the population, I finally belonged. I felt a part of the same something "BIG" that my child dearly loved, thus making my heart even more satisfied… Finally hearing the sounds that bring tears of pride, followed by that comes the most beautiful sight!!
The flags I fall head over heals with around kids each new year… I've had the honor to photograph thousands of band and Color Guard memories to share them with so many. Let's face it.
We've all, at one point or another, have struggled with finding a perfect group costume. I've come up with 10 duo costume ideas for halloween this year. Angel and devil. This one is pretty basic.

Here's a better perspective on how we can deal with this inevitable feeling and why it could help us grow. What a scary meaning for such a small word. Loss comes in all shapes and sizes. Just like us. Just like human beings.
A loss sends us into a spiral. An uncontrollable, spirling feeling you feel coming up your throat. Oftentimes, when we experience loss, we beg for the "one mores". One more hug, please. Others have speed camera alerts to notify you where speed cameras are on your route. It lets you check your speed when near the speed camera to avoid getting a speeding ticket.

An uncontrollable, spirling feeling you feel coming up your throat. Oftentimes, when we experience loss, we beg for the "one mores". One more hug, please. Can I have one more kiss? Just one more laugh we can share? We wish for these experiences to just happen once more as if that would ever be enough.
The reality is that even if we were privileged with one more, we would want another. And another. We'd never be satisfied. We'd eventually just wish for eternity. Loss is necessary. Loss is natural.
Loss is inevitable. Loss was never defined as easy. In fact, it has to be hard. It has to be hard for us to remember. To remember those warm embraces, to remember the feeling of their lips on yours, and to remember the smile on their face when you said something funny.
But why are we so afraid of loss after all? We are so blessed to have experienced it to begin with. It means there was a presence of care. That ache in our heart and the deep pit in our stomach means there was something there to fill those vacant voids. The empty spaces were just simply whole. We're all so afraid of change. Change in our love life or our families, change in our friendships and daily routines.
One day we will remember that losing someone isn't about learning how to live without them, but to know their presence, and to carry what they left us behind. For everything we've deeply loved, we cannot lose.
They become a part of us. We adapt to the way they talk, we make them a part of our Instagram passwords, we remember when they told us to cook chicken for 20 minutes instead of We as humans are so lucky to meet so many people that will one day leave us. We are so lucky to have the ability and courage to suffer, to grieve, and to wish for a better ending.
